Free Activities for Children and Young People this Easter

Educational Events Events Maths News

Are you looking for something to do this Easter? Do you have kids who are at risk of boredom? Thanks to funding from Hartlepool Borough Council, we have Pokemon clubs for primary age kids, and Pokemon tournaments and Dungeons and Dragons clubs for young people.

Welcome to the Dungeon: D&D for Young People

Join us for an adventure!

Whether you’ve played D&D before or not, this is an ideal opportunity to spend the day slaying dragons, stealing loot, and charming the locals. Roll dice, flood your imagination, and get creative solving the problems our games masters through at you.

We have everything you’ll need!

Hosted by Hops and Cheese on Tower Street, opposite Dickens DIY

Tuesday 11th to Friday 14th of April 2023, from 1pm to 5pm.

For young people aged 11 to 16, sign up here.

Pokemon Tournaments for Young People in Hartlepool

Join us for a free Pokemon Tournament!

Aimed at young people aged 11 to 16 (though younger children who can play independently are welcome), all participants will get at least one booster, with prizes too.

This is suitable for young people who can play Pokemon and have their own deck (although we have some to borrow). Play against other people in three rounds.

Hops and Cheese on Tower Street are hosting us, and there’s food too!

Tuesday 11th to Friday 14th of April 2023, from 1pm.

Sign up here.

Easter Pokemon Clubs

Across three venues in Hartlepool we have our classic Pokemon Holiday Clubs!

Over the last three years we’ve seen more than 600 children take part in Pokemon themed crafts, games and activities. We teach children how to play the Pokemon Card Game (we recommend children don’t bring their own cards, at least none that are special to them – they can be easily lost), we go on Pokewalks (we have phones!), we make Pokeball dream catchers, help Pikachu escape from his cage, and play other board games too.

This club isn’t just about Pokemon though – we know that children benefit from regularly practising their maths skills during the holidays, so we include maths problems and games. You can see a list of some of the other games we use here.

All children will also receive a healthy meal.

These clubs are happening in three venues:

  • Ward Jackson Primary School (3rd – 6th April 2023)
  • Headland Baptist Church (3rd, 4th, 13th, 14th April 2023)
  • Rossmere Primary School (11th – 14th April)

All clubs are 11am to 3pm.

You can sign up for the clubs on the Hartlepool Borough Council website – Hartlepool Holiday Fun Activities and Booking

FAQ:

My child is signed up to Ward Jackson in week 1 of the holidays, can they attend Rossmere in week 2?

  • Yes they can (if there’s space).

When can I book?

  • You can book via the council webpages straight away if your child has a ECHP or they receive free school meals. Bookings for all other children go live on 27th March 2023.

My child is 4/12, can they still come?

  • I’m afraid under 5 would be too young to join us. In some exceptional cases, particularly if there’s special educational needs, you may be able to bring a 12 year old, please email us at pokemonclub@gamersathart.wpenginepowered.com to talk about their needs.

Can I stay with my child?

  • We know children can be reluctant to be left of their own. We’re happy to provide a time where they can get established while you’re there, but we don’t usually allow parents for safeguarding reasons. If you think you child would be excluded without your (or someone else) there to care for them, we can make exceptions, but we would need to go through the usual safeguarding procedures.

My child’s a fussy eater, can they bring their own lunch?

  • While this is possible, we do encourage children to eat the food we provide. A key part of the funding we receive is to ensure that children have a healthy balanced diet while their with us. With that in mind, please follow the usual school guidance if you do provide a packed lunch (i.e. no chocolate, sweets or fizzy drinks).

How do I know my child is safe with you?

  • All our staff are DBS checked, have had safeguarding training, and most are either teachers, teaching assistants or sports coaches. We have excellent child to staff ratios (8:1).
