Since 2017 we've run a Friday Night casual league - find out about how it works, and how we keep it fun, here!
What do you do?
You buy a ‘prerelease kit’ (which is 6 boosters and a promo). You build a deck (we can help). Then we match you up against other people to play. The games are ‘best of three’, and there’s three rounds – we usually finish about 9pm.
We give you everything you need to jump straight in!
How's it casual?
The evening as a tournament-like structure with three rounds, however people can only use the cards from their prerelease pack, so there’s no ‘pay to win’ – you can’t buy more powerful cards to make your deck more competitive, we all have the same pool of cards to build from.
At the end of the night you add cards from one more booster to your deck to try to improve it.
The league resets every 8-12 weeks with a new prerelease kit.
Who is it aimed at?
Everyone’s welcome, but we find there’s 3 groups of people who enjoy it most:
- People who are completely new to MTG – sometimes these people join us for a league or two to get accustomed to the game, before moving to more competitive formats.
- People who want to return to MTG – many people spent their youth playing Magic, and want a way back in without buying loads more cards and decks – this is a great way to get that nostalgia fix
- People who play regularly but prefer a less competitive format – card games are expensive, we know that – constant new releases and needing to buy rare cards to have competitive decks. Not everyone wants that, and this league is for people like you too.
